On the 5th August, the charity SYEP held a barbeque at the Intergenerational Greenhouse Project. And everyone was welcome.
Using firelighters, paper, chip paper and coal, blowing and lots of matches, the fire would not light. There was smoke but no flames. But there was a saviour! Clare bought a lighter and the barbeque lit with care and attention from Clare.
It was a feast of salads, burgers hot dogs and sauces. We ate tomatoes and cucumber straight from the greenhouse too, which were delicious. The team of Clare and Claire worked hard to cook all the burgers and sausages.
The evening was quite cloudy, and it had been a humid day. We relaxed in chairs and chatted all evening. Alan wrote a poem and talked about how he loved words. We discussed the Catton Show where someone had won awards for her baking and plants. Conversation flowed and it ranged from talking about wildlife and moving house, to buying designer clothes from charity shops and travels to America, Canada and Malta.
The SYEP Gardening Project have two greenhouses and some raised beds that are a space for anyone who wants to grow their own plants and vegetables. It is a nice quiet sheltered space, which is busy with life. The seeds and plants that are grown are sold on to bring in funds and raise awareness of the charity SYEP.
I don’t know a lot about gardening; however I do enjoy being around plants and people. It is a welcoming space where you can be yourself, learn about gardening, share skills and chat. So come along on a Monday evening between 6 and 8 and have some fun.
