THE PEOPLE BEHIND SYEP
At SYEP, young people are at the heart of everything we do. Our projects are powered by passionate and committed volunteers, community ambassadors, and dedicated staff, all of whom bring their unique experiences and perspectives, enriching our programs and inspiring others.
Our work is guided by a committed board of trustees, reflecting the rich diversity of Sprowston and Old Catton. They bring a wealth of experience and skills, ensuring our projects are well-rounded and impactful. Our team goes above and beyond to support the young people in our community, always striving to make a positive difference.

I have been a youth worker for 19 years and have a lot of experience working in many youth work fields, including education, outreach, youth clubs, one-on-one support, and more. I also have an extensive background in substance misuse and set up the Sprowston Youth Engagement Project (SYEP) through my work with a local drug and alcohol charity. My role focuses more on the operational side of the project, but I continue to support sessions as a youth worker and support young people one-on-one. I’m passionate about empowering young people and giving them a voice.

Hi I’m Trudii. I’ve been working as a mental health nurse in the NHS for over 30 years. I have two teenagers myself and love being part of the Sprowston community having moved to Norwich 25 years ago. I love musical theatre, being outdoors and am very passionate about sustainability.

Melody has been working with young people for 7 years and runs her own community group in Suffolk. Before working with young people she ran a community allotment in Leicester with Indian carers. She has expertise in writing funding bids and project planning. In her spare time she like to grow tomatoes and collect eggs from her rescue chickens.

My name is Leon, I come from South Africa and I enjoy Rugby, Formula 1 racing and love the outdoors. I have been working with young people from all different backgrounds for the last 12 years. I am a senior youth work and work as part of the team at SYEP. The greatest reward for me is to see young people achieving their goals and full potential whatever that may be.

Dan is an experienced mountain biker who has worked in the bike industry since 2001. Briefly sponsored by Scott USA and MBUK to race the UK Downhill Circuit, he finally found his passion in 2008 delivering youth work and community projects in Oxford focused around bikes. Dan is excited to bring his experience and knowledge to the incredible opportunity the Urban Adventure Garden presents for an outstanding youth bike project.

Hi, I’m Cass. I joined SYEP 9 years ago, started as a young person and now a member of staff. I’ve always got a song in my head and enjoy getting to know about people.

Hello! My name is Daniel and I have worked with Young People for many years in a number of different roles. Alongside youth work, I also work as a Theatre Director. I love travelling, watching movies and spending time with friends. I enjoy helping young people to discover their voice, to find their place in the world and achieve their full potential.

I’ve worked with children of all ages and I have 2 children of my own. The last two years I have enjoyed working with older young people at SYEP. I work at the Sprowston Youth Group and also provide 1-1 support at the local High school.

Hi my name is Sophia and I joined SYEP in April 2024. My background is in well-being, movement and youth work. I enjoy anything creative, animals and nature.

My name is Adam. I’m 19 years old. I’m part of the LGBTQ+ community. I have just started boxing to stay fit. I love fashion and I enjoy getting out exploring and trying out new things. My role in SYEP is a trainee youth worker. I was a volunteer, then a community ambassador I then decided to do training to become a youth worker. I help out at outreach sessions and the youth centres in Sprowston and Old Catton to help with teenagers and young adults that need my assistance

Hi, I’m Brooke. I currently work for SYEP as a trainee youth worker. I love helping young people and interacting with them by playing various games indoors and outdoors. I also enjoy making someone’s day better just by talking to them. After I finish my training, I hope to continue with youth work and possibly explore other jobs related to youth work as well.

I’m doing this role because I’ve been going to youth group for ages and when the opportunity presented itself, I took it because I knew it would be a good place to see if this is what I want my future to look like. I enjoy talking to the young people and helping to make sure that everyone feels involved and if they just need someone to talk to they can. I hope but doing this job it will open my eyes and maybe show the path I can take for my future.

Hello! I’m Henry, the football coach at SYEP. I enjoy being outside and playing sports especially football, having played for many years before going into coaching. I feel strongly about giving back to my community and helping others to reach their potential.

I became interested in youth work due to my own lived experience of growing up with ADHD and ASD. As an adult I am keen to provide support to young people who are struggling with similar experiences. I also have a background in art and design and enjoy teaching and running creative workshops. As a nature lover I thrive in outdoor spaces such as our Urban Adventure Garden and love getting stuck into outdoor activities in the summer time.

I have been helping run the young persons garden club as a volunteer for about 7 years at the Aslake Close greenhouses Sprowston. I love anything related to gardening, nature and wildlife and enjoy helping others learn about gardening and growing your own food.

Owner & Sports Coach at LB Coaching. I have been working with SYEP for 4 years proving sports and outreach sessions. I Enjoy teaching a range of sports and fitness based activities as well as playing.

Hi I’m James I’m one of the coaches for the SYEP football teams. I have been coaching for over 10 years with a mixture of sports coaching as well as fitness coaching. I completed my degree in the sports field in 2017. I played rugby and football most of my life, continuing playing rugby league for my university when I was there.
