ABOUT US

History

SYEP is a community supported Norwich youth group based in Sprowston and was the brainchild of PCSO Kane Casburn of Sprowston police station, Norfolk Constabulary and Clare Lincoln of the Matthew Project’s Voicebox service, which began operating at Sprowston recreation ground three years ago.

The Voicebox project which was in operation since 1989 providing a safe, warm, welcoming place for young people to talk informally with skilled workers about drugs, alcohol and other issues important to them, has now closed and has been replaced with SYEP Teen Café.

The youth group formally opened its doors at its new home on 23rd October 2012 following collaboration between bodies including the Matthew Project (providing a drug and alcohol service for young people under the age of 18), Norfolk Constabulary, Momentum, Sprowston Town Council and the Anglican Church.

Our People

Young people are our primary focus and our projects are underpinned by young volunteers, community ambassadors and staff all of whom have been involved with SYEP in some part of their life who share their experiences with others.

The wider community helps oversee our work with a board of trustees who represent the diversity of Sprowston and Old Catton with an experienced skill base and our staff are dedicated to the work they do and go that extra mile to help the young people in our community.
