ENGAGING YOUNG PEOPLE, PROVIDING SAFE SPACES AND ACTIVITES
SYEP runs projects for young people aged 11 to 17 and support for young adults aged 18 to 24. We provide a safe space for teens to socialise, meet new friends and learn new skills. Our youth group runs on a Tuesday in Sprowston and on a Thursday in Old Catton.
About the Sprowston Youth Engagement Project
SYEP is an award-winning youth-led, community-based charity that has been delivering youth provision in Sprowston and Old Catton since 2012.
We provide an environment for young people where they feel comfortable, safe, and supported. We encourage good relations and involvement between the local community and young people through inter-generational work and linking young people in with the local councils and police.
We strive to support young people in achieving positive outcomes by providing activities six days a week. This includes youth groups, open-access drop-ins, positive activities, volunteer opportunities, confidential 1:1 support, therapeutic support, a youth-led podcast, football, bike, and gardening clubs, and more.
We love coming to outreach because it gives us a fun chilled and safe place to come after school to see our friends and meet new people. Having conversations with the staff helps and encourages us to speak about our mental health and any worries we have.
HELPING YOUNG PEOPLE
Young people are our primary focus and our projects are underpinned by young volunteers, community ambassadors and staff all of whom have been involved with SYEP in some part of their life who share their experiences with others.
The wider community helps oversee our work with a board of trustees who represent the diversity of Sprowston and Old Catton with an experienced skill base and our staff are dedicated to the work they do and go that extra mile to help the young people in our community.
